OK, really easy...
apply an ice pack to the face and to the neck...this will help decrease the blood flow to the nose. do this for 30 minutes...if it continues after thirty minutes, pinch the nose on the soft part for 5 minutes (use your watch because you would be surprised how slow 5 minutes goes)
this should stop the blood flow.
you will need to wait for about 2 weeks before anything will be done to give the nose swelling a chance to go down. no ENT will touch one until that happens because it is hard to see what damage has been done at this point in time...
if after two weeks the nose looks ok to you, it may not be broken...a 4 YO nose is mostly cartilage and it will take months to heal any way...if you still notice a change, call your gp for an ENT referral (and take a recent picture with you...)
good luck
you may want to give a decongestant to help with the swelling in the meantime...do not use afrin or similar w/o your gp approval...
good luck

Take the following steps to control a nosebleed:
Have the person sit leaning slightly forward.
Pinch the nostrils together for about ten minutes.
Apply an ice pack to the bridge of the nose.
IF BLEEDING DOES NOT STOP:
Apply pressure on the upper lip just below the nose.
Send someone to call 911 or the local emergency number if the person loses conciousness; position the person on the side to allow blood to drain from the nose.
NOTE: Seek medical attention if the bleeding persists or recure or if the person says it results from high blood pressure.
AFTER THE BLEEDING STOPS:
Have the person avoid rubbing, blowing or picking the nose, which could restart the bleeding.

No, don't have him lie back. Sit him up straight and soak up the blood with a cold wet cloth. If the bleeding doesn't stop after a couple of minutes or he has more trouble breathing, I would take him to the emergency room or telephone your pediatrician and ask him what you should do.

I had them a lot as a baby, I bear in mind our well being care provider putting forward there have been numerous motives, frequently on the challenge of transformations in humidity or altitude. If the newborn has those days moved, this can very in all danger clarify the unexpected frequency. one ingredient my daughter's pediatrician recommends is a skinny layer of vaseline utilized with a q-tip to the contained in the nostril - it prevents the walls from drying out, which prevents nosebleeds. i'm particular he's high-quality, although. some human beings are only more desirable smooth to the elements than others. :)

tell him to leave forward and use a warm wet rag to place over his nose...it's never good to lean back...it can cause a blockage when it finally clots. If you cant get it to stop or slow down within an hour after doing that then the doctor may have to put the balloon thing in it.

Let it bleed out. Laying his head back or pinching his nose could cause a blood clot that could hurt him more or make him choke.

Why do you people ask those important questions here? We are not all doctors, and the chance of one answering your question is slim. Bring him to the doctor!
