Just came back from Miami now there is alot to see. Lots of traffic during rush hour. South beach is great for walking and taking in the restaurants, not sure what the clubs are like as they were expensive to get into. The mansion looks like a dump on the outside but really nice on the inside according to web site. The Cleavlander and the Mango are nice places to party. For lunch and dinner I would suggest the Colony Hotel on South Beach as everything is half off.
If taking kids with you maybe go to the Seaquarium, Parot Jungle or Monkey Island. The boat cruise that takes you around Star Island is great you see the homes of Puff Daddy, Jennifer Lopez, Capones old home, Elizabeth Taylors and more.
There is a nice mall on Collins Ave called Bal Harbor it is a mall for the very rich but still nice to look around.
If you are going have a good time........

I would take a trip to the Florida Keys. It's like another world down there. Very relaxing. South Beach is the best place to be for nightlife. Some other places of interest is going to Coconut Grove, and Bayside Marketplace.
There is also the Seaquarium, Parrot Jungle, and MetroZoo (which is huge, and fairly inexpensive, if you have children). Fairchild Tropical Gardens is nice, and there is a place to swim called Venetian Pools, which is like a natural swimming cove.

If I were visitng Miami for let's say a week this is what I would do....
2-3 days south beach. Enjoy the beach life, the scenery and stay in bed till 11ish b/c you'll be partying all night.
I'd maybe spend half a day in the grove if you want to do something interesting...
Id take the following few days and drive down to Key West. There are tons of things to do there. 4 hours away.

If you come to Miami, South Beach and Lincoln Av. (just a few blocks from the beach) are a must. Plan to eat dinner and enjoy a couple hours walking around Lincoln Av.
Downtown Miami is nice but comes in a relative 3rd place.
Traffic is horrible during the normal rush hours, so don't even plan to drive anywhere during these times.
Good luck! and enjoy.
