Where is the cheapest place to buy groceries and produce in the Boston/Cambridge area?
I am a newly single mom with teenage boys and i cannot seem to keep food in the house. I'm spending $400 a week on it and I just can't afford it. Currently I shop at Stop & Shop. Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy groceries? Or produce in bulk quantities for cheap? I buy over 8 dozen pieces of fruit a week! I live in the Watertown/Waltham area. Is food cheaper in Cambridge? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try some of the cheaper supermarkets like Foodmaster or Market Basket. In general they are a little bit cheaper than Stop & Shop, and if you're buying that much food it may really make a difference for you! Also, think about buying a membership to a wholesale store like Costcos. They have locations in Everett and Dedham, and it costs about $50 per year but you'd save a lot buy buying in bulk. I know the Everett location always has GREAT produce. Even just on things like cans of soda or milk, etc you can save a lot on if you buy it there. Go once every other week and stock up, and then just buy the inbetween things or stuff you don't want in bulk at somewhere like Foodmaster.
