I love both and wonder if anyone knows of similar films. Please tell why you think they're similar?

Or "Stage Beauty"- also one I loved.

I'm looking for something similar in terms of mood, not necessarily period pieces, you understand. If possible, I'd like something more recent, since I want to pick it up at my local Blockbuster.

Just to clarify, I'm not really looking for anything necessarily erotic, and nothing explicit. I enjoyed the feel of both Quills and Chocolate- the sort of unfolding of the tales.

I did see the Count of Monte Cristo, and wasn't that impressed.

This movie is a bit more seductive but young adam is good, the count of Monticristo was based in that era, also Elizabeth, Mcbeth, Look under indie films or go to sundance online. Quill's was excellent.

that's a wierd answer, ebeth, especially as you admit to having seen neither. If you like Quills and Chocolate because of the sensual passion, the first thing that comes to mind is The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Worth seeing regardless of what else you like - passion, eroticism, control. Lena Olin, Juliette Binoche (of Chocolat), Daniel Day Lewis. Great Kundera book too. Sensual food oriented movies might include Babette's feast (restrained); Like Water for Chocolate (less so), or The Cook The Thief The Wife and the Lover (not at all restrained). 9 1/2 Weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger?

Howard's End
The Remains of the Day

Both excellent films by the duo Merchant/Ivory.

i'm not sure if it's actually similar, since i've never seen either one. but some of the ones that are in the same genre are "Hamlet" (the Kenneth Branaugh version), "Sabrina" (1954)
