Im 17 and work for a day care in a school age program. I was working part time which I asked for, and making $8.00 an hour. I worked with three other women between 19 and 23. One of which had all of her levels for this job. She and one other girl then quit. Leaving me and Tanya with running the program. Nobody from the daycare talked to us about this. I now am working fulltime, doing highschool and trying to get my level one. And the daycare is not planning on hiring anyone for the programer because of their funds. Im still making 8.00 and only get paid till 6:00pm no overtime what so ever, even though i never get out of there until 6:30-7. I've worked there for a year. I don't even think its legal for me and Tanya to be running the program, because we have no education in this. I'm just wondering do you think 8 dollars is enough, exspecially since we're now running it. And do you thinks its legal to have uneducated teens running this kind of program.

I would quit, but until they hired somebody there would be no program. And I feel obligated to stay. Because as much as i dislike this daycare i feel loyal to the kids and the parents. Where would they go.

I'm sure there is a director that has all the required licensing and degrees to have the program running legally, even if he/she is not in the room with you and the kids. But legal or not, I'm sure it's not what the parents are paying for. Demand that someone qualified to be in charge be hired, or you will talk to the parents about not having any qualified people watching their kids. At this point, finishing high school with the best grades possible should be more important than what started as a part time job.
