Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and look up your system.
You see, you did not look at the Bottom of your HP Pavilion to get the exact model number. It would not be dv5000, but a similar number in that series.
At Coast Memory, your machine may have come with 512MB but there are only two slots. So you would want to buy 2 modules, 1GB each.
It is my best guess that if you bought (2) 1024MB-DDR333, 333MHz, PC2700, 200p SODIMM, 2.5v, Sync that they could cost $99 each for just under $198.
You can call Coast Memory at 1-800-463-6679 but you pay slightly more than if you buy on-line.
You see, they have the best price, but also guarantee that it WORKS. When I have gotten the wrong memory by MY mistake, they have always made it work out for me. So go with confidence.

would need a bit more information to give more help - cause there are quite a few model numbers for the dv5000 laptop / notebook
you should go into the HP website (listed below) and "chat with an online technician"

goto www.hp.com/support then click on chat with a tech the well do a scan for you on your laptop computer and tell you want it is inside your computer. you can also try holding down these keys at the sametime ctrl alt and S all at the sametime and it should bring up a window with your model number and so on.

don't download the memory of the internet because it takes memory to download the extra memory so you didn't lose memory or gain memory.
