1967 was the summer of love in San Francisco. San Francisco wasn't called the summer of love. The Hippie mantra was "Make Love, not War" as a protest against the Vietnam war. It was the year that they started making those posters with flowers poking out of a rifle.

It was also the time period when "Free Love" was all the rage, and so many books, movies, etc were made about having multiple sex partners, and couple swingers. "The Pill" had made all this "free love" possible, and allowed women to feel better about being sexual.

The alternative or "hippie" culture of the 60's was centered there in a section of town called Haight-Ashbury, which is actually just a street corner. The lifestyle called for "free love", meaning uninhibited sex. The year was 1967.
