Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work. Because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.

So who can answer this without insults and ignorant comments?

The whole world hates us. The conservatives hate us. The neocons hate us. The Islamist hate us. The Jihadist hate us.
I figure we must be doing something right.

There is nothing "wrong" with being a liberal, just as there is nothing "wrong" with being a republican.
We need both views on every issue to achieve the best policies and results. The best policies are usually somewhere in between the two extremes.
In general, I find liberal views on some issues to be unrealistic and too idealistic. But, on the other hand, I find a lot of the republican issues address the wealthy instead of the less fortunate.
Compromise usually gives us the desired results.
Unfortunately, some issues just don't seem to have a middle ground - the Iraq war, abortion, gay marriage and such - and this widens the gap between the two parties and really does nothing more than create division and less cooperation - and, hence, less gets accomplished, and what does get accomplished simply takes longer.

Well ?
You are partially correct.
No there's nothing wrong with being a Liberal .... Really !
But you need to do your history.
The time table as to all the above that you mention have been passed YEARS ago... and they had to have some Conservatives VOTES !!!!! Or they would not have been.
Back then I too was a proud Democrat. We had extremely great personnel in office.
But... It seems that the role of the parties "Democrats/Republicans" have switched.
Being a Liberal ..... Now "2006/2007". I just don't believe in certain things to which they are striving to get passed into law. One of the main things is ABORTION.
I'm PRO-LIFE.
When their are couples in this country that would love to adopt. We are killing babies everyday. This I don't believe.
Not only is this one of the 10 commandments stated in the Bible. But... It's also a law in itself. It's a taking of a LIFE... What would be the difference between abortion and a murder?
This and other issues are but some of the things to which I will never give into. And NO! I'm not SORRY!!!!

We conservatives really have nothing to say, our President Bush turned out to be a closet liberal (AKA neocon). He has outspent Clinton on discretionary spending by an unbelievable landslide. He continues to pour money into Iraq in his liberal, nation building, unecessary and failed adventure He also has embarked on a Stalinist, communist big brother domestic spying campaign. He lies liberally, for example, all of the most "damning" intelliogence against Iraq, which turned out to be 100% false, that equals LIES. The closet door is wide open - he has been outed as a liberal, but not a progressive liberal , not by a long shot. There is no such thing as Islamo-Fascists, but there are fascists operating in the War on Iraq. Oh, did I forget? He had a personal liberal lifestyle, his daughter have followed in his footsteps. Bravo.

Liberals were a rebellion against the conservative forefathers of this country. Republicans are conservatives....you left something out....Republicans freed the slaves...Abraham Lincoln. Everything else just fell into place over time.
Conservatives can compare with Puritans...pro life etc....
I am a Republican, and proud of it.

Nothing wrong with being / thinking liberal - everyone has beliefs that are considered liberal to themselves (but won't admit it out of "peer fear") - it's only when you say / do something against their core belief system that they want to label someone as a liberal - everyone is both liberal & conservative in their personal life.

According to Winston Churchill, "If you are under 30 and you are not a liberal you don't have a heart. If you are over 40 and not a conservative you don't have a brain."

I think what he meant is that we need to balance new ideas with tried and true. I was once a staunch democrat. I now consider myself a moderate independent. Hopefully I can stay that way, but after 40 who knows?

Liberals don't respect a baby's right to life. Liberals want to reject the 2nd amendment. Liberals promote unhealthy lifestyles (gay marriage). Liberals want to reward illegal immigrants. Liberals want to raise taxes. Liberals want the government to control every aspect of our lives. Liberals spread their propaganda through the left-wing media and in college classrooms. Liberals support discrimination (affirmative action). Liberals want to punish success and reward laziness and failure. Liberals take extreme positions on the environment and pass useless legislation. Liberals do not understand the importance of national security.

There is nothing wrong with being a liberal. There is also nothing wrong with being a conservative. The things you mention are indeed progressive laws that were sponsored and fought for by liberals. The conservatives are regressive but that isn't bad as it keeps the progression from progressing to far too fast. A balance is best.

Wear it with a badge of honor, indeed. Be proud of your beliefs and defend them. Democracy depends on each of us expressing our viewpoint and yielding when necessary but standing firm when necessary.

Liberals of yesterday and the ones around today are not the same breed.

And check your history books dear. More Republicans than Democrats voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act. -- Fact.

Liberals want to tax me into the poor house, they want to free dangerous criminals, cower on the world stage to the extent of encouraging terrorism and a lot of their so called campaign finance "reform" ideas are unconstitutional violations of free speech.

And don't forget it was liberals who stole all those houses away from New London residents in favor of private (not public) interests.

Kelo V New London. All the conservatives sided with the landowners --Rehnquist, Scallia, OcConner and Thomas.

Liberals Stevens Kennedy, Souter, Ginsburg and Breyer all pried Mrs Kelo's fingers off the deed of her house and kicked her in the chops for good measure.

That's what wrong with liberals today (for starters!)
