I don't base my opinion on anything I read - government issued or otherwise. I base it on common sense. Although I don't smoke it and haven't in probably 25 years, I think it makes sense to legalize it. It would profit the government in the taxes they would charge on its sale. It would profit businesses who manufacture it and it would profit the employees of those businesses when they collect their paycheck. I don't think it would open up a can of worms by making it legal because if people want to smoke it they do so already. The jails are way too overcrowded now with nonviolent criminals and we keep passing more and more mandatory sentencing laws that there is no end in sight to the overcrowding. Free up some beds in there for criminals that we really don't want walking around free.

First of all pot has 4 times the amount of nicotine as a cigarette. That's proven. Second, it enables and/or produces an altered state of awareness, outside of what would be considered 'not' drug induced. Third, it will eventually destroy a person's visual depth perception. Forth, it will induce or add to any cardiac issues a person may currently have...ie: arrhythmia and magnify. Just as smoking cigarettes, it leaves a black residue on windows, curtains...and most importantly the lungs.
Those who are advocates of marijuana should therefore not be in opposition to cigarette smoking because cigarettes would be considered the lesser of two evils.
Finally...if smoking marijuana is NOT ADDICTIVE, then why can't people seem to quit and since it is not legal, why are they deliberately breaking the laws. Cigarette smokers are legal and have been since farmers began growing tobacco. Cigarettes do not contain consciousness altering affects and if someone is stopped by the law, and if it is found they've been smoking marijuana they are charged with illegal possession.
Some of these things happened to me, medically...and I've know of others who have had the same issues. I used to smoke pot when I was about 21, but stopped after 6 months. I couldn't find anything there that made me happy. The problems and issues I faced were still there when I came off my high. So, it's a pointless waste of money.
Here are SOME facts regarding the use of marijuana:
The short-term effects of marijuana can include problems with memory and learning; distorted perception; difficulty in thinking and problem solving; loss of coordination; and increased heart rate. Research findings for long-term marijuana abuse indicate some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid (THC or synthetic forms of THC) withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system5 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine6. Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse.

I have my own opinion. It should be legalized. The government can control it somewhat by selling it over the counter. Of course, there are going to be those people who abuse it and start at an early age, but nobody can stop that really. You can only teach kids that they are not good for them. What they do later on in life is their decision. And, at least the government will get their taxes. They were made fools of during Prohibition, and they are being made fools of now. They should look back in history at Prohibition and learn from their mistakes.

There are facts now about the positive medicinal effects of MJ.
More are being discovered even today.
The Government would rather see people drunk on the road killing people than sitting at home smoking a doob.

Yes, marijuana is safer than alcohol, white sugar, corn syrup, nicotine, high fat foods, all over the counter medications, our drinking water, the air we breath, walking down the street, caffeine, almost anything known to man.
It is only dangerous to large corporations profits.

Yes, I hate pot because my father can't do anything but pot. He can't remember my name, how old I am or my birthday he doesn't even have energy to do anything but weed 24/7. This crap has been going on for 36 years and maybe more.
