My workplace has a single promotion process for auditors once a year. My current boss told me that I am not ready yet for a promotion this year and that I have much better chance to get a promotion next year. At first I did not mind waiting. However, my skills are in demand and I can get at least $10k more right away somewhere else. That being said, I have possibly the greatest boss in the world and I feel a strong loyalty toward her.

I made a job change just for money one time and it was not worth it at all. Dont' forget to also weigh non-cash benefits - both tangible and intangible.

If money is your top priority, go for the better offer. In this age, businesses will let you go as soon as they need to make their bottom line look better, so why should you be loyal to them?

On the other hand, if you are making enough to get by and have a little savings, you would be jumping into the unknown by changing jobs. There is no way to tell that you would like your new boss as well, or even at all. As the newest hire, you could be the first laid off.

All in all, I personally would stay where I am happy if I am making enough to get by, at least for now.

I'm retired now and I always went for the bucks. No matter what, go for the bucks. Why are you working? If you didn't get paid, would you still get up and go to work every morning? You work for the money and the satisfaction of being able to make that money. No other reason...

Let he know that you like her and that the market shows that you are under paid 10k.
Ask for her help and for her to advocate on your behalf.

The next step is to look for another job , remember you get to interview them more than they interview you.

Best of luck
