Do goldish require an airpump, or do they get their oxygen from the surface?

Also, once Algae starts to grow in the tank, can the Plecostomus(sucker) fish live off of that, or do they still require algae and shrimp flakes?

Pleco can live off the tanks algae, and no goldfish do not require an airpump, because they stay in ponds so the water isnt deep.

Yes, Goldfish do require an air pump. They also tend to be very messy fish (they give off a lot of pneumonia's) so you might want to get something along the lines of a filter, just so your not cleaning your tank often.

the Pleco's do eat the algae, however they wont be able to live off of it. you should still continue to give them the normal amount of shrimp flakes. I hope you dont plan on putting the gold fish and the pleco in the same tank. they live in two separate environments. Plecos need to be in a tropical habitat, with a water temp about 78-80 degrees, goldfish live in colder water not requiring a water heater.

Almost all fish need an air pump. the most important thing for goldfish is a filter. they are very messy and the ammonia and nitrates will kill them and the pleco off pretty quickly. Plecos will need to be fed. You can get algae disks. my guy really likes shrimp pellets and will eat blood worms and tubifex worms tht fall to the aquarium floor.

It's not a good idea to have a sucker fish with goldfish. Eventually the pleco will develope a taste for goldfish. Goldfish also need strong filtration, as do plecos.

It is better to give goldfish a pump, but I've kept goldfish for years without one and they've been fine.

Don't keep plecs with goldfish. Plecs need warm tropical water and will be unhappy in cold goldfish water. Plecs do eat algae, but its a good idea to supplement their feeding so they have enough. You don't need to buy commercial food though, mine live on slices of zuchinni (weighed down with a bit of lead) and shelled peas, they love this!

Its a good idea to have an air pump for all fish. I would still suplement with tablet style fish food for the plecostomus.
