I put in a new bulb but nothing happens the glass only gets hot. Is there a special type of bulb you are supposed to buy for lava lamps?

I have been a lava lamp owner for about 10 years now!!! I love them, they are so cool and pretty to look at!!! As for your question....no, u unfourtanely have to replace the whole lava lamp.

YES THEY REQUIRE 40 WATT APPLIANCE BULBS IVE HAD MINE FOR YEARS WITH NO PROBS. CHECK THE BULB AGAIN

they get old and quit heating up, check on the wattage on the bulb it might be to low.
