yes so your baby will experience the nature of swinging and feeling comfortable around her loving parents.

DD LOVED hers - I wouldn't have been able to get by without it. I think I started using it regularly around 6 weeks - maybe a week or two before. She was a preemie so she was on the small side. I rolled a towel and put it around her for support - Now however they have such awesome swings that recline and look super comfy even for tiny babies so I would go ahead and get one. Or even better try a friends if its possible to see if she likes it. I did have one friend who's baby hated the swing - then her second child loved it. So maybe before spending the $ try if you can but they have so many swings that look great for little babies that I certainly don't think its to early. That motion can be so calming. My daughter slept in hers a ton for quite a while. It was a savior for me.

I put my son in a swing the day I brought him home from the hospital, it calmed him. I suggest the Baby Papsan Natures Touch Cradle Swing.. it is available at Target. It swings side to side then rotates to swing front to back, plus it has 4 diffrent music settings and a volume control. I already have it set back up for my second baby, due in May.

No--a swing is totally unnecessary!
Buy a baby sling or wrap instead. Babies need to be held as much as possible: the sound of your heartbeat, the smell of your skin, and the movement of your body as you go about daily walks and household chores are familiar to your baby--she experienced all of this for 9 months already inside the womb.
In many other cultures around the world, babies cry much less because they are carried constantly. Babies that are carried sleep better and are calmer in general.

Have fun!

It depend on the baby. If you baby can not sleep on her bed. And always need to hug, so just give her a swing is better for her. When my baby is around 3 week, I also bought her a swing, cause she can not sleep very well on night in the bed. Until now she always sleep in the swing.

It's not too early. I used mine the first day home from the hospital, just roll a receiving blanket around her head to support it.
If you can, try her in a swing before you buy one. Some babies don't like to swing, they prefer to bounce.
I only used my swing for about 3 months... but it was a lifesaver!!

I started putting My daughter in a swing about 1 week old. I made a pillow to fit as kind of a soft table around her front to support her, it kept her from sliding sideways......with her sides. If your not good with a sewing machine ask your mom or grandma if they could make you one. If it makes you feel like your baby is more secure instead of just the safety belt alone. A bouncer is great too....

My girls LOVED their swing. My youngest use to sit in her swing to sleep. We got one that was battery operated, and we propped her up with baby blankets. Even as young as 3 weeks. She never felt comfortable in her bed. She wanted to sleep in her swing or her car seat that has like the picnic basket handle...I know that sounds silly but can't think of the word for it. It will calm her ALOT. My oldest daughter, it was the only way to calm her, other than rocking her myself.

I had a swing for both of my kids. It was a life saver. They started using it right after they were born. My second had bad colic and that was the only thing to calm her down.

I had a swing for my twin boys since I can remember. As long as she can sit it the swing... Another alternative is the bouncy/vibrating chairs, my boys loved that. Another thing that calmed them down was vacuuming. I swear it's true! I would vacuum outside their bedroom and with in 10 minuets they would be sleeping.
