I need some help. We have a 1930s brick home, with apparently blocked pipes. Underneath an outside decking, the pipes lead directly from the bathroom, toilet, laundry etc. Water is coming up from these pipes, including sewerage etc. How much should I charge for a plumber to clean out these pipes?

Secondly, if the cleaning does not work? What are the next options? Worried I might be up for a huge bill.

Sounds like you need a Roto Rooter dealer. Some, but not all plumbers will do power snaking of drain lines, but it sounds like you may have root problem. That's when roots of a close by tree infiltrate their way into the drain lines, through a small crack or seam and start to catch solids that normally flow on through to the tank or sewer at the road. There are power snakes that have root cutting attachments for the end that will chop up the roots and let the water flush them on through. It's not a job for an amatuer, however. And you're right, it could get expensive, depending on how far it is to the clog.

Indeed you need RotoRooter. GET A COUPON IN YOUR YELLOW PAGES FOR LIKE $35 OFF. of Sewer Cleaning.

They use a power snake in the pipe and can literally cut right thru tree roots and unplug the thing for you. I suspect you have tree roots got their way thru the old tile sewer pipe. I think a bill of around $250 is about what you might see.

Do you have a septic. Try asking again, and this time give all the information you can. By the way, if you know a plumber that you can charge to work, I need his name!
