the best and most effective way to have lovely handwriting is to be CONSISTENT.

If it slants one way, make it slant that way ALL down the page.

If you use a certain form for /a/, do not change it for another kind of /a/ half way through the writing.

make all capitals the same height, not some taller than others.

Keep the 'tails' of /f/,/g/ /y/ /j/ /q/ and /z/ all looking the same, and keep it the same all down the page.

There are letters that are tall - /b/, /d/, /h/ /k/ /l/ /t/ . Make the tall parts go to the same height.

Now the other answerer said to get a book. May I recommend "The Italic Way to Beautiful Handwriting?" It is about 7 to 15 dollars on EBay. Fred Eager is the author. You will learn how to do fancy italic writing and all he says is similar to what I have written. I am a handwriting specialist.

Glad that you are interested in how your writing looks. It is a great gift. Many folk couldn't give a hoot. Well done.

Strengthening the muscles in the hand your write with is extremely valuable. Using chopsticks, tweezers to pick up small items or squeezing clay are all very effective in making the fine motor muscles stronger. Also, working on technique in isolated practice...such as repeated looping, whatever area you feel needs more fluency.

Olivija, handwriting is an important, lifelong skill. Good luck in your efforts.
