copyright details on song usage?

i want to use a song for my high school student fil project. do i need a copyright license, or can i just use it, as long as it is not for profit? thanks

There is no violation of a copyright if the song is only used for educational or personal purposes. What is prohibited is the use for commercial value or in sales when the owner supposed to lose revenues.

Its not illegal until you get caught.
