It just depends on how much time you can give to playing guitar. When i was 13 I got a Bass and a DVD on how to play i pick it up more and more and started using tabs. Tabs is like Sheet music but it show what string to put the finger and what fret. Anyways back to what I was saying several months later I picked up guitar and starting picking that up. If you want to learn to use Sheet music take lessons. Beware thought some tabs websites are being shut down one that seems that can not be shutdown is ultimate-guitar.com. Just remember thought give it alot of time If you cant do that you can't get better. My friend got a guitar the same time i did he did not give it any time a year later he can hardly play one song I can Play at least 30 on guitar and bass. tom delonge got his first guitat at the age of 15 he found it in a dumpster and mark hoppus got his first bass after helping helping his father paint their house. They are both amazing players from the band Blink182.
To summarize this up
Give it time and commitment
Use DVDs and tabs to teach your self
Get lessons if you want to learn sheet music
Your not to old to start
And Rock on

You're definetly not too old. Billy Corgan, the lead singer and lead guitarist from the band "the smashing pumpkins" started playing guitar at 15, too. Whether to get lessons or not is your choice. You can learn just as good as without lessons, as long as you know where to look (internet, books, etc.). Personally, I never took lessons, and a lot of people are impressed with my playing. But again, its your choice.

You're 15 and you think you're too old? That's crazy. I know a girl who is 24 and taking guitar lessons. You can do whatever you want at any age as long as you're dedicated. So, take th guitar lessons.

you're NEVER too old to start playing any instrument. I taught myself how to play both guitar and bass. In a way I've gotten a little more cred with fellow musicians b/c of it. Go forth and rock, is what I say

I don't think you're too old at all. If you can afford a teacher, that's a good thing, but if you can't, then it's certainly not at all impossible to teach yourself.

You are never too old! My brother-in-law learned when he was 40. I'd take lessons if you can afford them. If not get a good book or instructional dvd and practice practice practice.

Lessons and a lot of practice will work best.
Life time suggestion;
You are never too old to learn something new. Only losers
think that way. Always strive to better yourself. Always
strive to learn.

your at a perfect age, if money is not the issue than deffinately take lessons, but if you want to be cost-efficiant then go with the teach yourself method. get a video, or a book, or look online. Good luck.
