Where did you go to get your carseat installed? I've got mine secured behind the passenger. But I want to move it to the middle and I want it installed perfectly. I can't seem to install the carseat in the middle as well as I can get on the side.

Today I asked about carseats and the majority said it was better to install in the middle. I have had it on the passenger side for 5 months now. I will check my manual...

I have a 2007 Honda Accord EX. It's a 4 door. I have a Graco SnugRide infant carseat. I have it hooked up with the 5 point harness. (This carseat gives you the two options) Right now I have it hooked on the latch and seatbelt. I guess I'm trying to be extra safe. I know that seatbelts can snap in a bad accident...

We installed ours ourselves, then had it checked at the local police station. Not all carseats fit the same in all cars, so if you want it installed in the middle of the seat you may have to buy a new seat. You can use things like rolled towels or swimming pool noodles under the seat to get the proper angle and tight fit. Make sure you read your car owners manual about installing and things like LATCH (many cars are only equiped to have LATCH installation on the outside seats).

Some will actually yes, most around here have a carseat check about once a month where people can go in for free and make sure the carseats are properly installed and being used right. Health departments also usually offer a free carseat service to check and makre sure they are installed right. With so many carseats out there it is so hard to know if you have the right one and if it is installed right.

The reason the car seat doesn't install as well in the middle is because the belt and buckle are further away from each other than the ones on the driver and passenger side. Read your manual for your car and it will tell you if a seat can be installed in the middle. I tried the same thing with my car and it wouldn't fit either. Check with your local health department, they will be able to help you install it. Good luck!

MIddle is nice but not the most practical. For example in my minivan the two youngest kids, who are still in regular 5 point harness carseats, are in the seats behind the passenger and driver for easy access. There is no middle seat. My older kids sit in the way back.

I contacted my local SafeKids coalition. They were a great help.
Be sure to read your carseat manual, and the car seat pages in your vehicle manual as well. It's a great help to get your seat in right!
The middle is safest, provided you're doing it right. What type of car do you have? Are you trying to install it with LATCH or with the seatbelt? What type of carseat do you have?

A proper, solid install is more important than the location of the seat in the backseat. Some child seats do not fit properly in some vehicles or in some positions in some vehicles. You can check if there is previous info about your vehicle and seats installed at http://www.carseatdata.org/.

That would be because car seats should be installed on one side or the other. In the middle your car seat can tip over and be wobbly. Also call your local fire or police department. Most of them do car seat checks or can point you to a place that does. They can show you the proper way to install your type of car seat perfectly Good Luck!
