I tried the PC speaker mute in the volume control, and that only muted the speakers. I want to turn off or turn down the built in speaker that plays the beep on startup in older PC's and the sounds in DOS games. I tried to play a DOS game on my laptop and the speaker is too damn loud. How can I turn this off?

Some of you people don't understand me. I'll revise this, I want to shut off the speaker (NOT speakers) that PLAYS BEEPS AND DOS GAME SFX, NOT THE ACTUAL SPEAKERS. It doesn't do **** all when I use a headset, because the speaker isn't designed to do so. PC SPEAKER THAT PLAYS DOS SFX
PC SPEAKER THAT PLAYS DOS SFX
PC SPEAKER THAT PLAYS DOS SFX
GOT IT IN YOUR HEAD YET?

go into your BIOS settings (these are your motherboard settings).
if you notice when it boots up, it will normally say something like
"HIT for setup" or "HIT for setup".
the key will vary with your motherbaord. but just enter into those settings and look around. Don;t mess with anything you are unsure of, but their is usually a page of startup functions, like how quickly it detects the amount of RAM, etc. If the option exists, i would guess it would be on this page. But poke around some and see what you can do.
Good Luck.

well if you go to the start buttom on youre laptop and you can click on the volumes box on youre right side down of youre laptop screen window and you will see a icon that looks like a picture of a small spreaker .then u click that it will pop up front of the screen after there you can just drag up or down or turn it off. for useing the computer pc . if you just want to use youre head set instead useing the spreakers you needed to go behide the PC and by looking down buttom you see maybe two black plugs or if there are one that is also green plugging also then you can just unplug two black ones and clear up look you see one has a print of a spreaker phone on it and other had a pic of a headset . then try that see if that works .

only openup your case and get rid of the speaker cord or in somecase the forums might want to have a builtup audio gadget, in case you particularly like it to shutup, only stab it with a screw driving force without damagin the motherboard..
