In June me and my friend are going to London, Paris and New York and we are spending a week in each. One of the main reaons why I want to go is for shopping and just do the basis tourist things like the london eye, the eifel tower, the lourve and the statue of liberty and dedicate the rest of the trip to shopping, but my friend doesn't want to do much shopping she wants to spend everyday doing toursit things ang going to museums and art galleries which I find really boring. What do you think I should do, I suggested we go off and do our own things and she got angry and said we needed to spend the whole together. Am I being sellfish if I don't want to do tourist things everyday. We are travelling from Australia.

If you are both giving the same time and money for sure you should do the things that make you happy, if thats shopping than so be it, the one who is being selfish is your friend. Just think if youre good with going on and doing your own thing so should she, if she isnt who has the problem? Don't drop yourself into her psychosis, let her struggle with the problems shes creating, you have the beat of your own drum, she has the beat of her drum. go and have a great time on your own.

I agree with what Matt said.
If you're from Australia, wow its gonna be EXPENSIVE, esp in London with the british pound, yikes. 100 aus dollars will be worth maybe 40 something pounds which doesnt buy you much.
Dont make a plan and you will have a great time, thats what I did when I went backpacking thru Europe.
Of course shopping happens. Do a little bit of both though. Esp in those places, you can visit and then come across stores to shop. Good luck with your situation, thats why I prefer traveling alone, I don my own thing and not have to worry about the other person.
Switch it on and off, shop one day and then go do touristy things the next day. But honestly, speaking from me, I dont think I could JUST shop for a complete whole day!

Come up with a compromise - shopping one day, tourist the next. Divide it up equally (besides, I'll bet you can find some places to shop while doing the tourist thing).
It would be a shame not to do a little "touristing."
I don't think it would be a good idea for two young women to separated in foreign cities. Too many wackos out there!
Sounds like a great trip!
Your friend should be willing to compromise, if not, find a new traveling companion!

You should compromise, in a week, spend 4 days touring and 3 days shopping, something like that. If your friend does not want to go shopping at all, I suggest you find another companion. It will not be an enjoyable trip for you and your "tourist" friend if you do not have an agreement.
The worst thing that can happen on your trip is that the two of you will fight over the schedules. Please avoid that and iron everything out before you go.
Travel (and shopping!) should be enjoyable!!! hey, take me instead, I wanna go shopping -- just kidding =)
Take care!

you are going to want to go do the touristy things, see the museums and even just walk around the old streets and average building over there is just about as old as aboriginal rock art!!!!. i just recently went to euroupe, backpacking not knowing what to expect and i loved every minute of it. just go without a plan and enjoy yourself.
shopping in paris is very expensive, espescially the way the aussie dollar is. you can shop for the same things her in australia, and not pay through the nose for them and not get hit with excess baggage on the way back :)
trust me you will ove the place :)
