Someone said the government had the responsibility to teah the children so they know how to choose a good government when they grow up.. you are assuming one major thing there. That the government always will have the civilians best interests at heart, and that those interests are indeed what is best for the citizen. This is simply not going to always be the case. the people in government are not immune to selfishness, desire for power, etc. to always do what is best for the citizen.

Yes, it is. The only ones that should be running the school system is the local and state communities, and not the federal government.

Education is a prime responsibility of the government. Thus, it should implement what is good for the children in order to grow up maturely as citizens to have a good government.

The US gov't does play a part in choosing what students learn, but not nearly to the extent of a day to day basis. They usually restrict or decide what way to teach, they do not, however, tell schools exactly what to teach. That is usually left to the teachers and administration of the school.
They in no way teach us how to think. People are free to use their minds however they like. Although positive national propoganda may exist, it is always up to the individual to decide that he or she thinks.

Not really because you don't have to send your child to public school...there are private schools and home schooling and the governement does not force you to believe what you are taught
