Deaf Dumb And Blind

2016-10-02 21:27:07 · answer #2 · answered by brinton 4 · 0 2

In this case, dumb means mute not stupid & that means unable to talk. Alot of deaf-mutes were oringinally known as deaf-dumb. Deaf as you probably know means a person can't hear.

Blind means unable to see. There are a few deaf people who are also blind but most aren't. Infact the average deaf person will have better vision because the sense of hearing is absent. The same goes for a blind person. His/her hearing would be better.

When senses are missing, the remaining ones pick-up as a natural way for a person to compensate for what he/she/they don't have. Examples deaf person w/ better sight/heightened senses, & blind person w/ better hearing/heightened senses. This is applies to any sense missing (unless the person has no senses).

Hope this helped.

The phrase "deaf, dumb, and blind" is not a reference to Limbaugh, Palin, and Beck apparently, but it does describe them perfectly in more ways than one.

Rash Limburger is fair game, since he ragged on Michael J Fox when it came out that he had a serious (and deadly) disease. You just don't make fun of people that are seriously sick. That SOB deserves all the nasty things that are coming to him. Palin should simply be shot. Beck was never alive in the first place - but he's really good at faking things - especially reality.

Dumb originally meant 'silent'. It's used that way in dumbbell and dumb waiter. It is not PC to use for someone who cannot speak, but it was so used for an extended period.

mute. this is because people in older times believed that if a person could not speak, he was just too "dumb" to learn.
