i need to do like a feature story on the modernazation of japan how should i start it what should my starting paragraph be

The arrival of Commodore Perry forced the Japanese to realize that their island kingdom no longer secure from foreigners with steam ships and military power. Plus their military weapons were inferior to the gunpowder weapons possessed by foreigners. Before Perry, the Japanese would not permit the building of boats large enough to cross the oceans and all their boats were sail powered.
Large steam ships must have been a mechanical marvel to the Japanese and the astute observers realized that a modern nation had to be industrialized. The floodgates were opened so to speak.
By 1900, the Japanese had a modern navy and military and the industrial where with all to manufacture the equipment for each.
Quite an achievement is just a few decades.
Their modern navy proved to be equal to any when they defeated the Russians in 1904. A victory totally unexpected by the Russians or the western powers.
The industrial programs adopted in the 1800s continue to today.
Toyota just became the #3 selling automobile in the US.
