Overrated how? I know they spout "We're the best band ever!!" but nobody else has. Critics and fans say they're a great band and probably the most influencial band since the Sex Pistols. I don't think thats an unfair statement.

Yes Morning Glory was big and commercial but it was also a very good album. Def Maybe effectively kicked britpop into high gear and you can pick and choose great songs they've produced since that era.

Rock n Roll Star
Slide Away
Live Forever
Some Might Say
Wonderwall
Cast No Shadow
Dont Look Back In Anger
Morning Glory
Champagne Supernova
D'You Know What I Mean
Don't Go Away
Stay Young
Acquiesce
Rockin' Chair
The Masterplan
Half the World Away
Gas Panic
Go Let It Out
Let's All Make Believe
Idler's Dream
Stop Crying Your Heart
Songbird
The Importance of Being Idle
Turn Up the Sun
Who Put the Weight of the World on my Shoulders

There's 25! great tunes over the last 13 years and there's more to be found. And fair enough nobody HAS to like Oasis cuz not everybody will but if that's the case just say that - don't just brush them to one side and say "they weren't good at all and didn't matter".

As for reinvention? The whole band bar the gallaghers has been completely overhauled - their sound today has as much in common with blur as their britpop stuff (TIOBI anyone?)

AND.....they don't matter? They're irrelevant?

Razourlight
Kasabian
The Killers
The Artic Monkeys
Coldplay
Jet

These are just a few of the bands to day that by their own admission probably wudn't exist were it not for Oasis' influence, they are still relevant because their impact can still be seen today in the new generation of musicians.

As you can tell I am very much a fan and am of course quite biased but please some of the arguments here posted so far are just absurd.

Oasis are overrated. They were the most important band in the mid 90s but have now become almost irrelevant. Music has moved on.

I loved the first Oasis album the most, it was very different to anything else around at the time. The second was much more commercial, successful and overplayed. This was a problem for them in the long term.

However, most importantly the truely great bands can reinvent themselves to some extent and find a new sound/new energy. Even the Rolling Stones achieved that.

I've been saying this for years. Oasis churn out the same tired old semi Beatle parodies. There musical style has not developed or progressed since definitely maybe. There's more to music than Rock'n'roll attitude. I can not figure out why anyone even considers the mumbling monkey like Liam to be anything other than an overgrown spoiled teenager. The only talent they have comes from Noels ability to produce variations on the same set of songs on definitely maybe. The race between Blur and oasis was won by Blur back in 96. Damon Albarn is just one of the many musicians who have left them standing at the start line. The musical world has progressed since Britpop. Oasis haven't.

I only ought to assert more than a number of youngsters at my college say they prefer Nirvana, and they in elementary words recognize "Smells like teen Spirit." They have not ever even heard of Bleach. So, in that experience, human beings overrate Nirvana. yet, i'm a tremendous Nirvana fan (inspite of the wannabe followers). and that i also loooove Oasis. So i visit assert neither.

Noel Gallagher is a tune smith.Try picking up a guitar and writing 1 song that people enjoy listening to(over and over) Then come back to me.

I know Liam was a prick but you won't see him on big brother!!!

I suppose you prefer S club and steps or CHICO or Peter Andre!!??

History shows all artists have influences.

Oasis used to sell thier albums out of the back of a transit van before they had a record deal. you obviously have know concept of real music by real people!

Nah, they can't be good. All the best ones are dead:
Jimi Hendrix
The Doors
John Lennon
Led Zeppelin
Now THEY were classics.

People seem to be saying that Oasis got their inspiration from the Beatles. Yeah? Well, that doesn't make them good.

Oasis are probably without doubt one of the most overrated, rubbish, gobshite bands to have ever existed! I still can't believe people are paying them any attention - especially considering they haven't written a decent song for over a decade. The Gallagher's should be strung up by their knackers. And I hate people fawning over them, they are like an advert for inbreeding.

Not in my view, not all the albums are great but Champagne Supernova and Cigarettes and Alcohol are two of their best and maybe the best songs of the nineties
