Al Ahly of Egypt finished in a respectable third position. Does this therefore make it better than Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, PSV, Porto, Bayern Munchen and other great European teams which did not make it in the top three?

It provides the best of international club football from each continent(confederation). So to some degree, it is a fair representation of football at an international club level. But as far as overall quality, it is not as the Man U, Chelsea's, Porto's, Bayern's are not represented since only one from Europe goes. Maybe this competition can be more similar to a WC by weighing the strength of the confederation at a club level. In this way, more European clubs would be invited and the host's best's club would automatically qualifying which would make it more competitive to try to host as more countries would bid.
