My wife is 38 weeks pregnant (and gorgeous) and definitely has a bad cold (ear ache, cough, sore throat). The OBGYN prescribed some antibiotics and said, if it gets worse to call the regular doctor and get a chest X-ray if necessary. It has only been 24 hours, she wants me to leave work tomorrow to take her to the doctor in the middle of the day(1 hour trip). I did that yesterday (and it took 4 hours). I have a huge meeting with the CEO that is conflicting. This is the only time the doctor can see her. Can I ask her to take a cab to the doctor's office?

I had a bad cold about a month ago and am finally over it. I still have a slight cough, but nothing else. I had all the symptoms you said your wife had. I did not make my husband take off work for me, even though I have a 23-month old to take care of. Now, had it been bad enough, I would have; however, I asked friends and family for help first because my husband is the sole money-maker, and he has a tough job to do in the first place. See if you can get a friend or someone in the family to go with her. Tell her that you'd really like to go with her but that this is a very huge meeting. Also tell her that if she MUST have you to go with her, you will. She is very sensitive right now, so be gentle with her and treat her kindly.

Well I can understand your dilemma in this situation...You don't want your wife to think work takes priority over her and the baby. Especially at a time like this...when she tends to be sensitive. I would suggest asking one of her closest friends or a close family member to accompany her. Explain to her that your have an extremely important meeting but you want to stay connected and would like to know all the details of her visit at the doctor's. Congratulations too!

Just take her.She will have the baby soon then you wont have to worry about missing work to take her to the OB/GYN.But wait until all the baby appointments start rolling in.Congratas daddy.

Give her the money for a cab ride.... make sure it's enough to get her there and back.
