Hi-Lo
Air Horn (electric mode from the siren and real airhorn from actual air horns)
Traditional Fire trucks and some ambulances use the old fashioned windups powered by an electric motor, called Federal Q's.
But to answer your question they don't make any certain siren tone
Here is a link to a supplier's website that has siren tones form different manufacturers.

It depends upon the type of siren installed in the ambulance. The ones here do the long, slow traditional sound most of the time, but go into the short fast sound when they come to a busy intersection. Police cars and fire trucks can do the same, but fire trucks often also have the buzzy horn blast.

I think it's WEOO-WEOO- WEOO-WEOO-WEOO because i have never heard of an ambulance with a REAR-REAR-REAR-REAR-REAR sound before and it sounds to scary to be it.

It seems to me that Abulances make both sets of noises. And while I'm not positive, I would say just off the top of my head that I have noticed that they switch from one of siren to the other when they are going through intersections with traffic lights. Or when they are stuck in traffic.

It's the ambulances speaking to themselves as they look for the right street, saying "where, where, where, where, where, where".
