Numerous people have "avatars" that are used to present themselves when they answer questions here. Are more people using them to depict their actual apperences, or do they use them to create an apearence that people only dream of having? Are people happy with the way they look, or do people have opinions about themselves, and their looks.

-I'd like as many people as possible to answer this question, I find it interesting to hear the opinions of others.

I have a mixture of both. It's that I'm too lazy to post a real picture, and also, I like to have some privacy. As far as the "real" or "fictionalized" avatar, I'm again mixed. I used mine to depict pieces of the real me, but at the same time, some of it may be how I wish myself to be. I stayed pretty true with the appearance and clothing(to an extent), but I may have subconciously depicted myself as I feel I would like to be seen.

I like that they have many styles and choices in the avatar section, but it really depends on the person as to whether they are depicting the truth or their "dream" selves. I feel that everyone has some issue with themselves. While some people may think "oh, soandso is so pretty, I wish I was as skinny as her", or "how does he get arms like that? I wish I had his dedication", the person in question may see something totally different. In my experience, I've met very few people who are genuinely happy with themselves appearance-wise. People are constantly going to the gym, watching what they eat, trying on clothes, and even doin drastic measures, all to achieve their "dream" self. If everyone was happy with themselves, there would'nt be diets, gyms, fitness magazines, anorexia, etc. The world is a varying place, so you're not going to find one idea(such as a physical happiness) among all groups.

I dont know about others but I made my avatar so that it would look as close to what I actually look like as possible. Obviously I am not a cartoon but I am happy with the way I look... and I wanted to represent my basic appearance and I also chose a background and clothes that I would be seen in.. I also added a dog because I have dogs.. funny too the dog kinda looks like one of my dogs.. lol
I didnt really want to put an actual picture of myself on here because I dont think its a good idea and I dont have pictures of myself anyway.

PS I just noticed I still had a fall background so I changed it to winter, and put myself on a ski-doo!! I love driving sleds!..LOL

Well, I'm sure all those ways kick in, but it's not like any of these avatars can be your exact twin, so don't count on anyone looking the same way
remember the phrase,

"you looked better on myspace"

I tried to make my Avatar look as close to me as I possibly could given the choices. I just got a new haircut and think it's super cute!

I make it look like me, and I think more people do make it look like them. Im not 100% satisfied with my looks but I accept my flaws and some days I feel like a million dollars.
I dont like all the fantasy stuff people can get on their avatars I think they encourage people to get ridiculous
