It used to mean People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, but seeing as how they kill many animals in a year and would rather have no animal cruelty than a cure for AIDS, it's just commercialism/a waste of space and money.

It's one of several organizations which start out meaning well and go too far with their dictates as to which is best for the world. They are merely an advocacy group, and a minority group of people (numbers wise). See also: greenpeace.

well.... i used to be a vegetarian and agree with them
now i eat meat and i disagree with them. they're right about some things though.. there is a lot of animal cruelty in slaughterhouses (but that brings up the question, is there a non-cruel way to kill animals?) and meat-eating does bring a lot of destruction to the environment. but basically i agree they're pretty wacko.
