Beacause we're not robots.

Some emotions are learned:

Fear of spiders my son is learning from me, but I'm trying to correct it! After all, what's he going to do when he's married and the official spider killer?!

Some just happen:

Crying from pain.

I've come to believe that Affect--feelings, are a vital part of our survival system! Our basic human Needs are both of a physical nature as well as human emotional Needs that must be met regularly. Wm. Glasser lists the basic emotional Needs as Belonging, Power, Freedom and Fun. Feelings signal to us when we are in a deficit state of any or all of these Needs; or signal when we have fulfilled our Needs. Just as indeed, do we start feeling hunger when we need to eat, we feel sadness, loneliness, grief when we are not meeting our Belonging Needs. We feel helpless and then often anger when we are feeling powerless in relationships, and any other situation where we cannot get either our physical Needs met nor our Belonging Needs of love, acceptance, caring. Etc. No Freedom creates frustration, anger, grief, depression, etc.No Fun, the same. WHEN these emotional Needs are MET, we feel joy, happiness, contentedness, love..... Feelings DRIVE us to get our Needs met!! Each person perceives h/her own Needs in different ways and has different depth of feelings, and must find h/his own way of meeting those Needs, so no two people feel the same degree of feelings even in similar circumstances. IF WE HAD NO FEELINGS, nothing would drive us to get Needs met and the human system would decline into helplessness, depression and ultimate death. FEELINGS are the DRIVING FORCE to enable us to LIVE by getting our Needs met!!

Emotions are a dictated by hormones and other neurochemicals in the body that developed out of an evolutionary need to survive. Without an intense desire to procreate, a species would go extinct. Without pain, a species would go extinct for injuries. Etc.

Simply stated, God created us with feelings. They are all thru the Bible. He wanted us to enjoy His creations, and each other. He created us to be happy, to enjoy, want to share, to be angry at what is bad, and just self preservation. Most of our feelings were designed for us to love Him and His creation. This love was to be shared with all others. The differences are to show us that He made each one of us differently. We are not clones.

God my young one. All because of God Almighty. He made us unique in such a way that fingerprints are all different and so are our reactions to different circumstances.
