In 1994, (during Bill Clinton's administration) Jimmy Carter brokered a "peace deal" with North Korea. The deal was that NK would be given $5 billion worth of oil, two nuclear reactors and lots of high technology In exchange for a "promise" to not build nuclear weapons with the technology and reactor stuff we gave them.

The deal also allowed them to *not* have international nuclear weapons inspectors visit them for 5 years.

On Oct. 17, 2002 the New York Times reported on the front page, "Confronted by new American intelligence, North Korea has admitted that it has been conducting a major clandestine nuclear weapons development program for the past several years."

North Korea lied.

So, here we are again...we're making a deal with NK. Are they lying to us, or can we trust them?

They are lying. They will lie to get blackmail and buy time to build nukes. We are screwed if they keep getting nukes then it is the USA's fault and if we do what it takes to stop them then we are the overreacting villain.

The world is screwed. Many people think we can reason with these people or it is our fault there is evil in the world. If someone attacks us we must have done something wrong. People won't react until it is a horrible disaster.

Prevention is too hard to explain so millions will die.

It is called appeasement...we will try and kiss there *** until they get cocky enough to suicide bomb the world. A lot of people think if we would just let them destroy Israel then it would stop there.

They were placated before, so Kim thinks why not just blackmail the world again?
NK used up Clintons payoff stipend, and now someone (the US) has to keep Kim Jong Il living the high life while his people starve to death. Lying? You bet.

They have no need to lie. According to my understanding of the agreement they aren't required to give up their 'arsenal' of nuclear weapons, only cease making plutonium for 30 days.

I feel so much safer already. I think that's worth about $300 million in financial aid, don't you?

Looking back at the history of our previous dealings with them, I think it is a strong possibility. What is the old saw? Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.
