canada created it. america commercialized it. but also depending how u look at it, america also made the game exciting with the athleticism but recently the teaching of fundamentals of the game has taken a hit b/c of the players' said athleticism.

James Naismith was Canadian, but he invented basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts. I would say it is equal. Simply for the fact that it would have died in that gym if not for the United States, but possibly not created if not for a Canadian. It also got its name from here as well I believe.Also considering it is more popular here in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world. It is safe to say for Basketball to have a chance to succeed it depended on U.S. obsession for new sports to set it apart from other nations.
