The most venomous snake in the world is the inland taipan or fierce snake of Australia. Australian snakes have the nastiest venom and hold the top ten spots for most venomous but they are not aggressive. More people are killed in Australia every year by honeybees than by snakes. The common brown snake is the deadliest in Australia with about three quarters of the known deaths by snake bite. Sea snakes have never killed anyone in Australia.

The deadliest snake in terms of people killed is probably the saw-scaled viper particularly in Sri Lanka with 50 people per million dead each year. In Australia there are 0.13 deaths per million each year from all snakes. Other deadly snakes are the king cobra and other cobras, the mambas and the pit vipers. Their venom might not be as toxic as the Australian snakes but they are willing to use it against humans unlike the Australian snakes.
