people asking dumb questions?

That's a pretty complicated question. I don't think there's any one answer, either. It's like asking what drives people to become lawyers, or doctors, or firefighters. The reasons will vary, from one to the next. One person might become one out of frustration. Another might be completely insane, and in that case, one would have to consider the reasons for that insanity, which are probably just as diverse. Another might want to be noticed, and lack the necessary level of compassion to view murder as unacceptable.

In general, though, I would say the answers lie in the elements for the development of personality. The conditions that influenced them, throughout life. One would have to examine it on a case by case basis. No two people's personalities are encoded by the same set of factors.

Usually they get depressed about life and the way people treat them. So they want to wreck everyonelse's life and make a name of themselves at the same time (why not go out with a bang? They choose to fight the system but in a negative way. Lesson here is dont treat people with disrespect you never know who's who. I've thought about becoming a serial killer but i was in a reeally dark place, still recovering.

Excellent question, F.B.I. profilers have spent their whole careers trying to answer this question.

There are three types of killers that kill victims that they do not know. Serial killers, spree killers, and mass murderers. There are two main types of serial killers organized and
unorganized...organized being the hardest to catch. As far as I know only one serial killer ever turned himself in, Ed Kemper.

Some serial killers were physically, sexually, and/ or mentally abused as a young child. However; most develop an inner fantasy of the act, killing, or in the form of a sexual sadist torture, terrorize, rape, and finally killing their victim. They may live with the fantasy for years before ever acting on it, some never do.

As far as outside influences causing the act as in "The 44 Cal killer", David Berkowitz...who claimed that a demon in the form of his neighbor’s dog commanded him to kill...this is BS.

He admitted as such years later while being interviewed by the very famous F.B.I profiler Special Agent John Douglas. Once a serial killer makes the decision to carry his fantasy to the height of committing the act they actually find out that they truly like to kill and continue until caught. Ultimately something in the killers life sets him off, this is called a stressor, in the case of Ted Bundy who targeted brunettes with long brown hair started killing when his very pretty girlfriend w/ long brown hair dumped him; ironically she was not a target.
Hope I was of some help.

I do not know but suspect it is from some trauma when they were young. Not an excuse there is no excuse. Very difficult to say. You think of that idiot John Wayne Gacey that killed all those boys. And then others kill prostitutes. It seems as if they have a target of one type of victim. Look at muslims. They want to kill as many muslims as possible. They are definatley another type of serial killer.

There are many schools of thought on this issue. The most frightening for me is the theory that relates their behaviour to the relationship they had with their mother!

Fortunately, I'm a mom of all girls (making it statistically improbable that they will become serial killers)

They are doing a study now saying that they can see if a child has a mind of a serial killer when they are born. But i think no one really knows because some come from pretty normal loving families.

There are numerous social and psychological reasons, but I think the main causes are chemical imbalance in the brain and severe trauma.

But what do I know, I'm not a psychologist.

If we knew this we'd have a lot less serial killers out there.
Some people think its how they are brought up, abuse, neglect etc.
Other people think your born with a bad gene.
If you see a child torturing animals... RUN!
