i just did the same thing to my blazer !!
there is an easier way to change out that fuel pump !
first u dont have a pick up so taking off the bed is a not ...
u cut a hole in the bed just above the fuel pump inlet at tank
roll the carpet back to the rear seat ..i drilled a few starter holes first an let the light shine through to verify where i was at in regardes to the fuel pump entrance i then cut an approx 12 inch by 6 inch square hole in the bed
reach in and pull out the pump !! replace plate u cut with roof caulking to fill viods and then cut a plate of simillar material larger then the one u cut out and screw it in over the old one !
DO NOT USE TO LONG OF A SCREW !!!my problems were over truck runs like new !! by the way im only supposed to have 13 lbs of presssure on my blazer

Rudedude pretty much nailed it! The fuel injection system on that vehicle had a central point fuel injector. It had hoses that connected to the intake runners of each cylinder. It required a fairly high fuel pressure to even start the engine. About 55 psi was minimum. You need a pump that has a capacity of about 70 psi. A hang on fuel pump isn't even worth trying. The tank will have to come off if your vehicle isn't making any pressure and you have power and ground to the will pump.
Good luck!

Sorry drop the tank. No add on fuel pump will be able to last pulling fuel through the old pump. Either way you go about it you'll need to pull the tank. Either to replace the pump in it or to remove it to pull a pump outside the tank. You need a pump to make 55 psi to replace the one in the tank.

that pretty much sums it up, need to drop tank, but caution there is a vent valve on opposite end of tank from fuel pump make sure to disconnect it before dropping tank too far. most people dont find it till its too late, i work at a gm dealership and sell many of these

the easiest way to test the fuel pump is to have someone crank while someone else smacks the bottom of the fuel tank with the palm of their hand, if it starts its bad and then you can choose which way to do it... i just replaced one in a 88 s10 this past weekend and we just cut a hole in the bed.....it is the easiest and cheapest way to do it, but i did find a shop that would put mine in for $80 with me buying the pump....it may be a little more for yours but check around and hope this helps!!

You could just have a plugged fuel filter. Replace it first, then try.A shop charges 350 to 500 dollars to do it.First make sure the auto parts place has the parts before you take the tank off.
