I'm 42 years old. My mother went thru abrupt natural (non hysterectomy) menopause at the age of 39. My periods have always lasted no more than 3 days. Up until the past 6 months or so, they were regular, 28 day cycles and bleeding lasting the 3 days. During the past six months they became irregular, somtimes every 2 weeks, but still lasting 3 days. It is February 14th and this is the 3rd time since January 5th that I've had my period. It lasted for 1 day (fairly heavy) on the 5th, then the next one came about 2 1/2 weeks later and lasted for 7 days. The longest ever! It just came agaiin and the discharge is sorta membrane like, not clots, if that makes sense. Also my breasts have been incredibly sore (evenly on both sides) since the beginning of January also. The night sweats, lack of concentration and all the other "peri-menopausal" symptoms are in place. Is the breast soreness/membrane like period part of peri-menopause? I had a tubal 16 yrs ago Couldn't be pregnant either, right?

Sounds like the onset of menopause especially with the night sweats, like you my periods were coming back to back but at a full five days of heavy bleeding, I finally asked to have a partial hysterectomy, ( they left the ovaries) and no more periods , at the time i was 45, and the best decision I ever made, no more periods period.( haha) however menopause was becoming full force within about three years , I now wear the Estrodot patch and really helps with the hot flashes. good luck

It's almost certainly hormonal.

Read up on natural, bio-identically hormone replacement.

Do not let your doctor put you on synthetic hormones or birth control pills! It messes with your chemistry and has been linked to cancer, among other things.
