A family in my community is struggling after a fire that devistated them. I thought it would be cool to go ahed and look for some charities that might be good to be able to help. Or maybe some fundraisers and whatnot. I live in Alaska so they really need an adequate house. Any ideas?

Their insurance. Their savings. Their own responsibility for being prepared.

I applaud your desire to help. Everything has been lost for them. They will need furniture, appliances, bedding, rugs etc look at good will, Salvation Army, Thrift stores. Have a church hold a new home shower where they can bring things like towels, dishes toasters even decorating knickknacks and pictures. If you know someone who was close to them especially family try to collect as many pictures as you can find and put them in an album. Toys, games, balls and bikes for the kids and of course clothing gift cards might be good for that.

If you have a local Salvation Army, Goodwill's, and most churches in the communities will help if you contact them. We had this happen to a family in our community and I started a fund raiser drive for them. We all began to work together and ended up getting our local lumber yard to donate the material to rebuild their home because they had no insurance. There is also world vision look them up. Here's to the success of finding all you need to help this family out. God Bless and will be praying for you and the family!

Nope, I'd give to that family but I'd NEVER give to a charity because most (if not all) of them are corrupt and they never give all of what they get to the needy. Only about 15% goes to the needy.
