The best bang for your buck is definately the Shuffle. It's easy, and best if you just use it for filler music. If you're used to portable CD players and walkmen-than this will be the easiest transition for you to the iPod world. it's the same concept, just with the advantages of size no batteries to buy. You have the ability to shuffle the music or play it straight through from beginning to end-your choice. Shuffle it usually the choice of people who need a player for work outs or music on the go to replace a cd. Usually people will say that they don't like not knowing what music will come next-but with iTunes, you can pick every song that will go onto the shuffle, so if you don't like the song-don't place it on the shuffle.

Now if you are looking for a player that gives you play lists and video and you buying a player because you want something to listen to while you're in the waiting room or on a plane passing time-then you may want to look into the nano. It gives you picture viewing capability and the chance to organize your music into thourough playlists-and you can scroll through the lists with the click wheel to get directly to the songs you want to hear-which isn't available on the shuffle. You also have the ability to develop play lists on the go for frequently listened to music-which is also not available on the shuffle. What I have found is that most people who get nanos get more than what they ask for-and while they like it, they more so like the idea of all it can do, but don't really have a chance to discover all it can do because they are really just too busy to sit and view pictures and scroll through play lists.

You ask yourself that question:

iPod Shuffle:

No Screen
Plays songs that sometimes you maybe do not want to hear
Small

iPod Nano:

2 GB, 4GB, 8GB
you can pick out the songs you want to hear
you can put it in "shuffle mode"
has a screen
small (but not compared to the iPod Shuffle)
in color
can search for songs
alarm
calender
games

iPod Mini:

4GB, 6GB, 8GB
Not in color (like iPod Nano)
not made by Apple anymore
convinent
alarm
calender
games

It is really up to you so you need to decide: "Will I like having the songs randomly being played and not knowing which order they come in...or would I rather pick my songs

My kids have the shuffle and I have a Nano. We all;l agree that the nano is better since it has a screen that tells you the song/artist and lets you select songs to play or create your own lists. The shuffle is just random and blind. (Nana has a shuffle feature too BUT it shows you what song is playing and the list.)

with the shuffle you cant see what song is comming up, just have to listen and see. Nano, u can see and theres more options on it.
Personally i would go with the nano, although i wouldnt mind having either one
