More research was recently done and it was found that you are more likely to get into an accident when you are reaching for a moving object, eating, reading signs, changing radio station or looking at something outside the window other then the road then you are when you are talking on your phone. If they make talking on the phone illegal, they need to also make it illegal to have anything in your car that is not strapped down, to have radios, to eat while driving to have large advertisements on the sides of the road and any other distraction.

Because cell phones are still fairly new. It takes a long time to get laws passed and, usually, you need a huge event to spur politicians to action. Several states have already made this illegal and more are following.
