Some of the things I listed are seen as gifts. If this is true, did God make these people like this? Or does it just go with Romans 8:28 that God uses everything for the good of those who love God? People actually do think of these things as gifts.

I consider Asperger's syndrome to be a gift because it gives things that far outweigh whatever problems I have, even though it is sometimes very painful. special interest http://www.co-brass.com/articles_how_about_not_curing_us.htm - 35k

If Satan really did give people autism and Down Syndrome, why did he give them some very God-like qualities?(not that people without these conditions don't have god-like qualities)
God is Love
Jesus is the Truth
Autistics tend to care about the truth, and people with down syndrome are loving
I gave websites about autistics caring about truth under what's good about Asperger's syndrome The first website I gave had to do with down syndrome and love

when I get up every morning I look into a pair of gorgeous blue eyes and hear the word hi and I get a big hug. Is that a gift?...to me it is...because I am looking at my son who has down syndrome. I think it is also a gift to my son. why? you are probably asking....well I look at it this way. My son will always hold his child like innocence and will never totally understand the harshness this world can produce. he will accept the world as it is and he will be happy. to those who may treat him like a "retard" and be mean and insensitive, he will happily embrace them and be compassionate to them....we all were made in God's image, but people who have DS don't care what others may think, they are the teachers of love and acceptance and they are not afraid or embarrassed to show it unlike most people today...so yes it is a gift.

I don't believe that God has much to do with the way each person develops in utero. This is just nature. If you think about the science behind what it takes to create a human, it is truly a miracle when a baby is born without disabilities - or gifts as you call them. As a society, we have introduced all kinds of artificial influences on a fetus's development. Life is such a delicate balance. It seems it would be easy to tip the balance.
The gifts we receive come from many places - some are internal to who we are, some are external elements that make us into who we ultimately become. When we deal with adverse conditions, we overcome so much more than the "average" human being that it does feel like we were given a gift. We were given the gift of strength and courage.
Peace.

I'm only 11 and I've not learned much of my faith as a catholic, so if I'm wrong or said something that is bad or sinnful. Bear with me patiently. Bear wrongs patiently is on one of the spiritual works of mercy. Anyway, I think that if they are born deaf or something than it was God who made them that way. But if they become deaf by listening to music too loud that I think God didn't do it. Because God basically leaves us alone and lets us make our own choices and I if me decide to do something stupid that makes us deaf then we did it. If however we become sick for some apparent reason and become deaf that it was God who did it. And to some people it may seem as a gift and to some it may not. But I think it can be seen as a gift from God. To be honest I don't know why I think that. I just always have thought of it that way.

Listen. Because this is an open Forum, where people from all believes enjoy and share, I have a very simple opinion. We are spirits in evolution to improve in this existence all our past errors.
The only one who really knows why does he or she, chose to bring this imperfection to this existence, is God.
Nobody sane, can believe, that if we were created to His Image and Perfection, we must see all these health conditions even in babies. If Destiny brought you with any of these, it is because you are shaping and cleaning your spiritual process in this existence. You must evolve into a better person, or you will pass through the same experiences in another existence. We are Unity, we are free spirits, trying to evolve in a most lovable and brighter way. We reflect what we are deep inside like mirrors.
This people(disabled or sick) came to be loved, by those who happen to be their parents. family, neighbors or human beings. Because they are a living lesson for everybody. They arouse the most unsensible feelings, from those who do not believe there is a reason for everything. They are called special people.
Just think a little and you will understand. For example: How can you explain that an airplane that crashes in the mountains of Colombia, many years ago, was totally burned and destroyed.
But... there were three survivors. The father, his daughter and their dog. She was exactly like her mom.
Everybody has it's own fate. to called in a way.
Try to live a better life with a much better quality of love and sensibility. There's no worst sickness, than the spiritual one.

The Bible says in John,
As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Jesus answered, "Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him.
All people are made in the image and likeness of God and each person has a purpose in this world to glorify God. In God's eyes people are people--not disabled or non-disabled. God doesn't make mistakes--everything he creates has a purpose and disabilities are no exception. Embrace the gifts that God has given you no matter what those gifts may be. You are who you are because that is the person God wants you to be...stand firm and share the wonderful blessings that God has given! God bless!

It's a difference of being-that's all. What is unfortunate is that people only want to accept those who look like them, act like them and fit neatly into their comfort zones. If everyone was embraced and valued by what they could contribute to the world, a lot of the stigma with these people would cease to exist. I don't look at autism as a gift but I don't see it as a tragedy either. I see it as a difference. Maybe that's what God wants people to do? Couldn't hurt could it?

Well, first off, speaking as a hearing member of the Devon Deaf community, Deaf people (those who use sign language) do NOT consider themselves disabled. They have a rich language and cultural life. I know many Deaf people who don't want to hear and don't necessarily want their children to hear either.
Second, God doesn't make anyone anything. These things happen and God supports us in dealing with them. We are obligated to bloom where we are planted in life and God helps us do that.
Myself, I live with depression. I am, and have been for some 40 years, continuing to develop a full and complete life.
There's a choice: be miserable or learn how to live fully.

I do not think that god will put anything on us that he feels we can't handle. A difficult road in life always makes us a better person and a stronger individual there is an old sayin' The things that don't kill us makes us stronger" many people label others as disabled because we do not understand their ways of life

I think aspergers is a gift. I have a young son who amazes me with the questions he asks and the answers to the subjects he's interested in. I wouldn't trade him for all the so-called 'normal' kids in the world. And what a boring world it would be if we were all the same.

this is just my personal feelings on this, god sets a soul in every concepted human egg.now from the time of the great battle in heaven, satan tries to discredit god by doing things that people say "its gods work".like when my son died from a auto crash caused by a drunk driver.all said it's god plan, bull hock, god would not kill a 15 month old child in such a horrible way or any way and no, any affliction is not a gift
