What are the points of difference between the Jeffersonians and the Hamiltonians regarding the constitutionality of the sedition act? (1790)

Jeffersonians favored strict interpretation of the constitution. Meaning that if it wasn't in the consitution, it was unconstitutional. Hamiltonians favored loose interpretation of the constitution. Meaning that if it wasn't specifically banned in the constitution, then it was constitutional. Jefferson repealed the Alien and Sedition Act. He believed it was unconstitutional.

in brief, the chief difference is the Jeffersonian faith in democracy and the "voice of the people." Hamiltonians distrusted democracy, believing that the masses were fated to err, and favored a ruling elite.
