You can't smoke in public establishments because second hand smoke has been conclusively shown to have detrimental effects on the health of non-smokers.

You CAN pray in school - it's just that the school can't promote a religion or sanction religious displays because it violates the establishment clause of the first amendment.

Okay?

Of course it has.

The Constitution has become the one thing the Founders tried hardest to protect it from becoming: a collection of rights and powers that could be used to grant legislators, lobbyists, and civilian activists whatever their arbitrary wishes and ambitions dictate.

Whoever is in power in our federal and state governments now acquires not the ability to rule our country based on the actual rights and powers granted by the Constitution, but instead the ability to rule by the rights and powers he or she wants the Constitution to have (and thus claims it actually has them).

since when can't you smoke? Just don't let it interfere with my air supply. You can pray in school, it just can't be state sponsored or sanctioned. I am really sick of P.C. I'm sick and tired of the whining E.V Christians thinking they have the right to change the Constitution to a Theocratic document to accommodate their fascistic and superficial belief system.

Instead of a government that protects me from myself, I think it should be focused on protecting me from others. We have some very stupid laws all with that in mind. Seatbelt laws and helmet laws are prime examples. P.C. has went over board recently. If I sneez in public, I probably just violated someones rule about sneezing in a non-designated area. It is pathetic that when I buy a cup of coffee the cup has to tell me its hot.

The freedom to swing my arms ends where your nose begins.

What began as a way of promoting harmony and good feelings among peer groups has morphed into some horrible ***-covering practice to prevent getting the pants sued off of your behind! There's nothing that can be said about anything that can't be taken offensively. It's ridiculous!

Small minorities of people are offended by Christian Displays during Christmas. Or Ten Commandments in a court house, or prayer in school. So that small minority of people that are offended either happen to have money to get a lawyer to twists the constitution around or they get the ACLU to do it for them (Anti Christian Lawyers Union) and even if a court agrees with the majority, an activist, unconstitutional judge supercedes thier decision further wasting the tax payers money and time. Thus allowing the minority of the people that get easily offended to win the argument.

I definately think political correctness has gone to far in this country. Common courtesy used to be enough. Extremists and lobbyist get together to change the country to how they see fit. I can't believe they actually wanted to rid the country of Mother's day and father's day for those who don't have mothers or fathers. Give me a break!!!

You can smoke, just not where I would have to breathe it in.
You can pray in school, privately, you just can't have organized prayer in a public school.
It's called having good manners..

One more thing - part of this whole problem goes back to the issue of "tyranny of the majority" If 51% of us still wanted slavery, should we have it? If 51% of us wanted polygamy should we have it? If 51% of us wanted drugs to be legal, should that happen?

Obviously with regards to the smoking they mean well. If more people used common sense we wouldnt need laws against it.

Political correctness is ridiculous, people are so afraid of saying anything offensive or doing anything offensive.
