the two from the dealer (in the products picture) look nothing like others i have seen on the net.. im hoping these are just the juvenile colors. does anyone own any of these or know a source where i can order some and ensure getting a colorful specimen? also interested in albino eureka red peacock (common name). the local dealer so far can only order a pair and it cost around 60 dollars. if you own any of these im interested in how they look as adults too and any other info you can add..thanks :)

I have owned them before, but it was several years ago. There are several different populations of aulonocara jacobfreibergi available in the hobby and each one a bit different from the next. Joining a large cichlid club would be a great way to insure you get quality specimens. Usually home breeders selling off fry are more than helpful and very forth coming with all the details. I have no idea where you are and what clubs may be near you, but most active breeders are willing and able to ship.

Here's a link to a large cichlid club with a great site:

Here's a link to a very good cichlid site that has pictures of a variety of populations:

Hope this helps

The most common "natural" Jacob is the "lemon jake" out of about 10 collection points. The most common Jacob is the Eureka. This is a man made fish. So is the albino eureka. Not all Eurekas will look alike. Jacobs are also one of the largest and most aggressive of the Aulonocara(peacocks) species. I own 1 6" male Eureka red "split", 10 albino eureka standard,10 albino eureka red, 10 eureka reds, and a few lemon jakes. There are also standard eurekas out there, which dont have the orangish red on the bottom 3 fins. My "split" is outstanding(albino red/eureka red cross). But if you can find a good line of albino reds, they are unreal also. Check out www.kurtstanks.com look in his gallery for a knockout albino eureka at bottom. Remember only male peacocks will show color, and start showing at about 2" or so. They are also "harem" breeders, so you need more females(3-4 per male) if intending to breed. I would gladly send you a pic of my "split", if you would like.

Could be the juve colors. There are several sub-species as well. Follow this link for several pictures
