My friend is having a problem at work. Her job is going through some changes and they want to change her work schedule to better fit in with their project needs. She has childcare issues that restrict her available somewhat. They have given her a new schedule that meets her availability only half of the time (which they knew her availability when she was hired 3 months ago) and they are requesting her to write a letter of acceptance. What does she do? Write the letter of acceptance, knowing she will be unable to fulfill the agreement? Write a letter stating that she does not agree with the schedule? Take it up the food chain? - Oh, she put in a written schedule request before this new schedule came out - they paid very little attention to that. We need help, please…

If she writes the letter of acceptance knowing she can't do it, she has given them excellent grounds for dismissal. She can talk to the Human Resources department and find out if there is another area she can work in the company that will meet her scheduling needs. If there isn't, she will either have to find other childcare options or find a new job.

Suggestions of continuing to work the hours she originally worked are ridiculous. She works for the company, and she has to work when they tell he to or find another company to work for. I am not cold-hearted, I have had the same problems myself, but it is reality.

Do let her agree to anything that she cannot work with, they will use it against her that she signedd the letter of acceptance. Do not let her give up on requesting a schedule change because they do not care about her child care issue then why should she give in to their change. She is willing to work just not that schedule and yes let her move up the food chain. These companies always have a way somewhere and they just tyring to make it easy for them not their employees. If she is in such a company that does not respect her responsibilities then she needs a reality check to find a job that is family oriented just like her.

depending what state you live in , her work may have to pay max unemployment benefits , if the fire her for not meeting the schedule , they had enough time to put her where she needs to be , it is a bad business practice and , what you may want to consider does this work place even care about its employees , as the letter of acceptance , don't write it because she should not accept it , all else i can say is new job time and at this point a 2 week notice is not necessary when she or if she finds a better job at a company who meets the needs of its employees who are the ones who make the company in the first place

If your friend can't follow the work schedule at her place of employment then it is time for another job. I couldn't stand the schedule my former boss gave me because he made me night shift and all the buses shut down by the time I got off work.(restricted buses) So, it isn't worth going to work if you can't make it home.

Well obviously....they are making her choose....so basically she has to tell them she can't write a letter of acceptance because as they were aware when they hired her....she can not have child care for the times that they want her....I definately wouldn't quit...(in my state you can't draw unemployment if you quit)...if they don't like it...make them fire her....I would just continue to go according to the times she was hired for....she will just have to force their hand...either they will allow her to work the hours she can...or they will have to fire her....but at least she will be able to draw unemployment that way.
