OK, I'm not overly religious, but the whole thought of a man married to a man (woman to woman) sickens me to my core. Emotion aside its just not natural. All societies and cultures have always had homosexuality and yet none, not one (until the last 35 years) ever legitimized it into a union equal to marriage. Not even ancient Greece. What somebody does in the privacy of there own house, I could care less, as long as it does not hurt anyone else. But to legitimize it on a societal level, now you have taken it out of your house and into mine and I,m gonna fight you, and so will millions of other Americans. Religious or not.

I can give you some of the reasons people are against gay marriage. 1 is that some say that we are tampering with tradition and tampering with tradition is going to cause an imployed on society. 2 is that 2 person marriage derives its special status from natural children and 3 some say marriage is just a title, and gay people don't really need just a title.
I'd also like to respond to these. We have been tampering with traiditon throughout history. Not too long ago, it was against the law from black people to marry white people or for men to beat their wives. And that has all changed. A lot of people say that there shouldn't be gay marriage because they can't have children and that's the point of marriage. Well what about sterile women and men? Or those who choose to get married but never plan on having children? Even though they are heterosexual, should we not allowed to get married? They are contributing nothing to society. And marriage as just a title is very false too. When people get married they receive tax benefits, property ownership, inheritence and employment benefits. I think this is a human rights issue as well. I don't understand why some people don't think that every human has the same right. And being homosexual has been proven to in some cases be a genetic thing so you can't 'blame' them for being homosexual. The only reason anyone would have a problem with it is because they are raised in a society that likes to shun anyone who is different. They are people too, is it really hurting you if they get married? Is it going to affect your ever day life? no..get over it and over yourselves.

The reason why some straight people are against gay marriage is because to them, it's out of their own personal realm of everyday and normalcy. It's somewhat "unnatural" to them, because it's not in their thought processes everyday. As a gay 20 year old girl, I never, ever even remember that I am viewed as different than the majority of the planet until my friends or co-workers discuss their boyfriends and I discuss my girlfriend. Everyone just needs to let this issue go. I deserve to marry the person I love and that loves me, as we all do. Try it, even for just a second.
If you disagree with me, it just means you have never put yourself, honestly, in a gay person's shoes.

How can you explain morals without religious beliefs? In the absence of God there is no known right or wrong to be proven and no action is any better or worse than any other. In that case I say that I am naturally disgusted by lesbians and gay men. Even what some people dub as 'sexy' or 'hot' when two women kiss, I get sick down to my stomach.

Everyone is entitled to "equal protection under the law". As long as homosexuality is legal, homosexuals need to be offered the same opportunities as heterosexuals. This includes survivor-ship benefits, marriage, health insurance coverage and adoption privileges.

Homosexuality is against the laws of God, but not against the laws of the United States. Some people have difficulty discerning the difference...

Men and women are different. No amount of legislation will make them identical.

There are also tremendous health problems associated with homosexual acts. Why should government encourage them?

I have posted on this so many times, as has everyone.

If you don't like religious beliefs used to justify laws, I assume you don't take the third Monday in January off. Think about it.

How can people be against gay marriage and then support the war in Iraq that is immoral and smacks of double standards.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing to someone that you love them, no matter their sex or race!

Some people argue against it because it spreads AIDS.....well no, only to those who are partying will get AIDS. That's like saying "I can't play with someone who wets their bed because I might wet the bed..."

Gay marriage is supporting gay sex, which is against nature. The natural purpose of sex is to create babies, but homosexual intercourse cannot create babies, therefore it is unnatural. It's not our place to go against the natural order of the world this way, we've got to be careful not to upset the balance of the world through unnatural things like homosexual intercourse.

Morally wrong, and it opens a whole big can of worms. What's next polygamy? 3 people marrying each other?
