What is your opinion of him?

I think it is a fair decision.
To be honest it was between him and Mal Loye. People fear he may be the 'Theo Walcott' of the cricket world cup. However from what I hear he has real potential so what better way to nurture it?
I'm not sure it matters because I don't think either would make the starting XI, which I believe should be:

Strauss
Vaughan
Joyce
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Nixon
Plunkett
Anderson
Panesar

With Flintoff and Collingwood bowling, I see no need for four specialist bowlers. Anderson beats Mahmood to the last bowlers place. Strong batting line up right down to Plunkett. It's a very good fielding side. If a batsman becomes injured then everyone can be moved up one to make room for Stuart Broad or Saj Mahmood at 11.
If you like Dalyrymple and don't believe in Strauss anymore then Vaughan could open with Joyce and Dalyrmyple slots in between Flintoff and Nixon.
I only think Bopara will play if someone gets injured, and if he does play, who knows, it's often good to have a trump card, maybe a trick up Englands sleeve?

Ravi Bopara is thought to be like a younger Paul Collingwood
the selectors thought that Rav was the right person because hes like Colly in the way that he plays for Essex

Ravi Bopara is an upcoming young allrounder, which has weighed in his favour and selectors included him in the squad as they have high expectation from him

Bopara has been threatening to force his way in for a while, there is nothing wrong with taking youth to a major tournment

Personally, I would have gone for Loye, but yeah he's a good player. Doubt he'll start so it shouldn't really matter. How good is it that we beat the Aussies & we still have KP to come back!

Forget Vaughan - he won't be fully fit & he'll be a waste of space like he was in Oz. Don't get me wrong, good player, but he's not fit.

Good prospect, so not ready. Is a good fielder though and offers more from 12th man then Mal Loye! ;)
