Something else to consider, if the Hellfire Club pulls out all their members, they get Magneto, Mr. Sinister, Captain Brittan, Archangel, Psylocke, as well as current leader: Sunfire. The HFC has been around a whole lot longer.

The Avengers have the more organized fighters, but, as was mentioned, considering Civil War, you must take out Cap, Thor, and others that are ANTI-Registration

Avengers, definitely. Why?

First, the Avengers are more combat oriented. The Hellfire members seem very tough, but then you have to realize that most of their strength is in secrecy. They are not accustomed to fighting openly and forthrightly against enemies. They overestimate their power, and their power is untested.

Second, the Avengers have more and tougher members. Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Hercules, and Wonder man could easily handle most of the HC.

Third (at least, in the current Civil War storyline) the Avengers would have the backup of the US Government to help deal with the mutants who like to conceal themselves and skulk around in the shadows.

Avengers. Helfire Club has always had vast power, bu thas obtained little when it counts. The members might say they are in it for the advancement of the club, put all they really care about is wealth and their own self-interests.

THC has had super-psychics, untouchable powerhouses, and deadly cyborgs, but they never could bring it together. Even fractured, a small, tight unto of Avengers would be capable of defeating the Hellfire Club charging across the battlefield.
