My husband has PTSD and his military career is crumbling. He is not the man I married and the small installation we live on is devoid of any help. I can't even get a chaplain to call me back. He is getting worse and I am afraid he will hurt himself, our son, or me. I don't know what to do. Any resources or advice would be helpful.

I am retired military and currently a PTSD counselor with a Veterans organization. Your husband is currently in the military and cannot access the ptsd treatment teams at the V.A. He should immediately seek a PTSD evaluation by the military, it's mandatory that he do this as it will help for compensation pension upon his leaving the military.

There must be a Medical facility of some type on the installation where he is stationed, he definately needs mental health treatment for the ptsd.

He's living in hell right now, and perhaps you should seek outside civilian mental health resources. I can't direct you anywhere simply because i don't know your location.

If you want to email me at michael_trussell@yahoo.com and tell me some more information i'll go to my office in the morning and see what services can be provided to in service personnel nearest your military installation.

He definately needs help. I retired with 34 years service after a tour in iraq and afghanistan and dating back to vietnam i'm one of those ptsd survivors myself.

he needs to get some treatment as quickly as possible. if you have county health services (and can't get treated on the base) contact them. If you have any type of mental health coverage (even short term) from your own employer -- call them pronto!

There are meds with minimal side effects which can help PTSD. Check into Lamatical (spelling?) which helps with PTSD and depression.

If you really feel in fear of your life and your sons life. Get out. Leave one day while he is gone and leave a note with a phone number( cell phone) so you are agble to talk. Let him know he has to help himself. Bcuz if you guys leave he will see what he lost and he would prolly try anything to get him family back to normal. You could call your closest police department and ask for a couple of shelters or if you have family or a family independence agency- they will help you. good luck

There should be counseling services through the VA. They might be able to meet with someone in your family alone or together or as a couple. They should be able to help you figure out a course of treatment for your husband and what the future might hold for you as a couple.

He needs therapy and possibly medication, take it from someone with PTSD, he can't do this alone he needs something to get him through this rough patch and he'll slowly recover but it won't happen over night. I hope for you and your childs sake that he doesn't refuse treatment.

Take Care

You can call to VA hospital and get him referred to psychotherapy, make sure therapist is real MD or PhD, not just social worker or RN, just call, those people know what they are doing with veterans. War is tough, but after war may be worse. Good Luck!

Try a church, off base, perhaps they can refer you to a social service agency. Also, take him to a medical doctor, or psychiatrist, anti-depressants may be very helpful. Good luck, I am going to pray for you dear.
