Ok im kijnd of crazy i guess. I have this impulse sometimes, to just write long lists of made up names, sometimes in alphabetic order, sometimes randomly. sometimes i'll even see a bunch of names in an article, or online or in a yearbook or whatever, and just write them all down on paper. one time i wrote down the names of everybody at my old high school from the index of the yearbook. i have no idea why i do this, but i get pleasure from it.

If it's mild OCD and you want to get rid of it just don't let yourself start doing it.

As a teen (won't say how many years ago that was) I started counting my steps. First just down the stairs, then longer across the floor, then...) It started to bug me because I couldn't think while walking downstairs because I would start counting (maybe because sometimes it was in the dark and I'd fallen before?)

I made myself think of anything I could to get that out of my head. Or sing a song even if it was just lalalalalala.... It finally went away. What a relief.

It seems like you crave for order and predictability in your life. I would guess that too many things are going on in your life right now and you feel like you've lost control of them. So the problem is not writing names but dealing with the lack of order in your life. Try to simplify your life, separate important things from less important ones and take it easy.

I used to do something similar to that. I love to peacefully sit and write, for many reasons, #1, I loved my handwriting at the time, #2, it was great mental therapy for some reason and many other reasons. Just as long as it is not interfering with important things in your life, you should use it to your advantage because it can give you good "thinking" time.

I do similar things. It could be mild OCD but it's probably more like an emotional or intellectual need manifesting itself by list-making.
