WHY did you do it. You must hate yourself. For the SAME money you could have bought a good/well made/ reliable/safe car.

I have a Renault Mégane. However, it is a 3-door hatch, so its made in Spain, not France.

I'm afraid some of us have style, and just didn't find the 2002 Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic attractive. The Focus interior was horrible, and the Golf IV wasn't as reliable or safe as VW's reputation suggested. Nor could I get the same features (hands-free key, keyless start, panoramic roof, xenon headlamps) on a similar model from any other brand at the time.
I'll admit I do find the new Honda Civic interesting, but have read reports of poor fuel consumption from the diesel (38mpg average in the real world, compared to 49mpg from my Mégane), and I'm not sure that the lack of rear wiper would not become a constant annoyance.

Also, Renault is one of the best brands for safety - most of its models now score 5 stars in the Euro-NCAP crash tests. The Mégane was the only car in its class with such a high safety score when I bought mine. I've had it nearly four years, with a few minor electrical niggles, but nothing serious has gone wrong.

For the same money I could possibly have bought a better built car, but not one that was as good (in my opinion), or as safe.

I have had Renaults, Citroen's and Peugeot's, and can say that the present Peugeot's are first class on build quality I had a Renault Extra van for 16 years and still sold it for £400.00.I would not hesitate to go for a Peugeot or Renault as I have found them very reliable.

I had a friend who bought a used French made car. He was SO proud and said that it's sad American cars are so inferior to HIS car.

Well, one year and several thousand dollars in repairs later, he finally admitted that it was possible he made a mistake.

Bought it for the wife and she chose it. In fairness it has stood up to all the neglect and abuse she throws at it very well. If only cars could be designed to go around stationary objects......

I did it because they have proved to be very economical, good work horses when carrying lots of goods, good value for money, and there are no "british" cars any more.

Sold it to my mate who also ragged the **** off it for a further 2 years, no problems. He sold and we still see it racing around 2day. Therefore if u want french, buy a diesel, after all the compression ignition engine was invented by a fench man.
